Tips for when you are choosing your domain name

When buying a domain name, it seems easy what could go wrong when buying your new domain name?

Follow these simple rules.

  1. Use the correct domain ending for your country.
  2. Use hosting that is in your country.
  3. Use an easy name to remember.

I see this mistake time and time again where people, for example, live in
Gosforth and they want to target people in the local area and are from the United kingdom. They will then add a .com on the end of there domain name.
.com is not a bad domain ending if you live in America, but if you want people from the UK to find your website, we would use a .co.uk name.

People also tend to do the other way round they will have a domain name in the UK so a .co.uk.
But then they will get there hosting from America or Europe. The problem with that is that to get to your site in America or Europe, and your internet connection has to go; further and data has to travel further, this means your site will be slower.

Finally, choose an easy name and try to keep the name as short as you can. If a word is smaller, it is a lot easier for people to remember it.

If you use these correct tips today, you will save much heartache in the future.
